"Simba" Hangs on

(mid Jan 2023)

Executive Summary

After posting the "Goose" story, a commenter (John Paul) indicated they had a stuck kitty in Trinity AL. We made contact, and I drove out the next day, early afternoon. A horrendous storm with 70 mph winds blew through that morning and many portions of Trinity and Decatur were without power, and there were numerous downed trees. I was met by Matt, JP's roommate, as JP had a Doctor appointment. "Simba", an orange boy, was stuck in a tree in the front yard about 35 yards up. How he hung on during storm is anyone's guess. It was lucky that Simba's tree sustained no damage as there was a downed tree in the lot next door. I put a rope at 25 feet, climbed up, then used lanyards to reach Simba. JP had described Simba as a bit skittish, but Simba was calm and friendly - he was worn out and wanted a rescue. After a quick grab-and-bag, I headed back to the ground and handed Simba off to Matt, who brought him inside for food and water. Simba's ordeal was over, hopefully he can stay on the ground in the future.
