"Meeka" Up a TREE FOr Seven Days

(mid Apr 2023)

Executive Summary

Brandi from Rogersville AL texted me on a Sunday morning. Their kitty 'Meeka' has gone missing the previous Sunday.  They located her in a pine tree in the woods behind their house on Thursday, and all rescue efforts had failed. Today was the seventh day in the tree, could I help?  I agreed to come out and arrived before noon. Brandi led me a short way through the woods to a huge pine tree, where Meeka was running around at about 30 feet crying for help.  When I put a rope above  her, Meeka spooked and retreated far out on a limb.  When I reached her position, I pulled out a treat bag and shook it, which immediately got Meeka's attention. However, she was still a bit scared and would not come back to the trunk.  She kept looking at her favorite person Jeremiah, who was standing beneath her.  After no progress for a while, I asked Jeremiah to stand on the opposite side of the tree where  Meekah would have to come back to the trunk in order to see him. This worked -- Meeka started creeping towards me, and accepted some scritches and treats when she got close enough. She went into the bag with no problems. Back on the ground, Brandi took Meekah inside for food and water, and Meeka promptly chowed down on some wet cat food.  Her ordeal was over!
