"Grizzly" Climbs UP, but Not Down

(late Apr 2020)

Executive Summary

Tracy called me. Their family 6-month old rescue kitty, "Grizzly", had been stuck for three days near Sebastopol MS and all rescue attempts had failed. I told her yes, and could be there in a couple of hours. Upon arrival, Tracy and her two young children led me to the hardwood tree where Grizzly was crying his heart out. He was about 35 feet up, and there were two climbing tree stands on the trunk from a failed rescue. He had been much higher but Tracy had coaxed him down to his current position. Grizzly remained calm as I set a rope and even tried to play with the throwline as it hung near him. Grizzly obviously wanted to be rescued, and tried to get as close as possible to me as I neared him. Grizzly accepted some scritches then went into the cat bag with only mild complaints. Back on the ground, Tracy took him inside for food and water. Tracy, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society! As per the times that we live in, all maintained proper social distancing during the rescue!
