"Bonnie", A Bonny Lady in Trouble
(late June 2017)
"Bonnie" was stuck 35 feet up a tree for two days in Clinton MS before her rescue. She made the rescue a breeze by being cooperative. Vic and Sandy, many thanks for your very generous contribution to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
It was about noon when I noticed a voice mail on the Kat Fone. It was from Vic in Clinton MS, their kitty had been stuck for two days in a tree at their neighbors, could I help? I called back and arranged to be there later that afternoon. When I arrived, I was met by Vic, who then introduced me to his wife Sandy. The kitty, Bonnie, was a few months old and still getting used to going outside. Bonnie wandered into a neighbors yard and was chased up a tree by their dog. Vic led me to the neighbors, where I met Greg and Teresa. They had been keeping their dog inside, trying to help coax Bonnie out of the tree. Bonnie was about 35 feet up on a stem separate from the main trunk. This was good as I could climb the main trunk and keep her from going higher in the tree. Before I could get a rope set, a thunderstorm rolled in so Vic and Sandy invited me into their house and we chatted until the rain stopped.
The rain stopped after about 30 minutes, and we went back outside. Bonnie was still in her same location in the tree. I set a rope and started up. Another helpful neighbor, Hallie, arrived during the setup and she and Sandy stood by with a tarp in case Bonnie decided to take a leap. When I reached Bonnie's position, some food bribing with dry treats convinced her to come close enough for a grab. I had to reach over from the main trunk to Bonnie's stem, so my grab was not very graceful but she was soon in the bag. Back on the ground, I handed Bonnie over to Vic, who then gave her to Sandy, who took Bonnie inside for food and water. All ended well. The post rescue picture below, courtesy of Sandy, shows a relaxed Bonnie.
