Angelo/Jagger - A Two Kitty DAY
(early November 2020)
Executive Summary
The day started with an early morning phone call from Ann in Brooksville, her kitty Angelo had been stuck for 4 days, could I help? I packed up and was there within the hour. Angelo was only about 15 feet up a huge oak in Ann's backyard, but had refused to come down. He was not happy to see me and looked like he might jump to the ground at any second - which he did during rope installation. I was relieved, as it would have been difficult to chase him over the large spreading oak. Ann , many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
As I was packing up, I received a text from Natalie in Wiggins MS (below Hattiesburg) about a kitty who had been stuck for 6 days. I contacted my rescuer friend Randall Kolb from Baton Rouge as he generally handles rescues for me in that part of the state, but he was busy with a search for a lost cat near Denham Springs. So, I drove down to Wiggins and was met on arrival by Natalie and Cailey. They helped carry gear across a barbed wire fence and through a huge thicket of brush/saplings to the sweet gum tree where 'Jagger' was perched at 50 feet. Natalie had tried a rescue the previous day with a climbing tree stand but it was just not possible -- too many limbs in the way. I tried setting a rope about 10 feet below Jagger but was unsuccessful as it was blocked by limbs, so finally settled on a tie-in at 25 feet. Once I reached the tie-in, I used my climbing hook and lanyards to ascend the rest of way. Jagger (yes, as in 'Mick') was tired and ready for a rescue, he went into the bag with no complaints. Back on the ground, Cailey took Jagger in for some food and water while Natalie helped me pack up the gear. After the truck was packed, I went inside the house with Natalie and Cailey and loved on Jagger a bit, he is a sweetie. Natalie and Cailey (Jagger's mom), thanks for helping lug equipment to/from the tree. Cailey, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
