A Failed Rescue

(mid Mar 2023)

Executive Summary

This is the sad story of a failed rescue that has resulted in a lost kitty.  Lori recently changed homes, moving in with her adult daughter Emily near New Hope, AL. On the first day, her three-year old orange boy "Gunner" escaped outside and ran up a tree in the front yard. When I got there the next day, Gunner was only about 30 feet up and I thought it would be an easy rescue.  When I started climbing, he became agitated and moved to a different limb that was at the same height but not in easy reach.  When I reached his limb, Gunner ignored my food bribes, became more upset, and prepared to jump down to the ground. I made a try at a quick grab, but missed, and Gunner jumped  - when he hit the ground he ran off behind the house and into the woods. It has been over a week and he has not returned, and setting a trap in the wooded area for a few days produced no results.  Gunner has  a microchip, so hopefully he will be found by someone and the chip can be used to reunite him with Lori. Many thanks to Lori for your generous donation to Lovable Feline Rescue of North AL -- I am very sorry that I could not rescue your kitty.
