Toni tagged me in a Facebook post and contacted me via Messenger about a kitty stuck in a wall in Philadelphia MS. The owner, Suzette, soon contacted me. Her kitty had been missing for two weeks, and the previous day she finally located her via faint meows coming from underneath the back porch. The problem was that the meows were coming from inside a cinder block wall. On arrival, Suzette and I went under the house (fortunately, had enough space to crouch - did not have to crawl). The meows were coming from the end of the wall. The end of the wall was covered by another cinder block wall that was perpendicular to this wall (an end cap). This end cap was not attached which turned out to be critical. From the meows, it seemed that that kitty was inside the wall. The initial plan was to chisel out the top block, then reach down into the wall. When I loosened the top block and started trying to remove it, I realized that the kitty was actually inside of this very block. The top row of blocks had their holes arranged so that they aligned and formed a horizontal tunnel. The kitty had crawled in the far end, got to this end, and could not back out. I could not remove the block as the kitty was spread out between two blocks. I used a pry bar to move the end cap by a few inches, this allowed me to lift the top block a little and tilt it. Then, with the kitty's help, we were able to pull her out of the hole. Back inside the house, the kitty was a bit wobbly, but she ate and drank well. A few hours later Suzette told me that the kitty was wobbling around, going up and down the back stairs, and still drinking/eating. So hopefully the kitty will be ok. Back underneath the porch, I blocked the holes that formed the kitty trap to prevent this from happening again.
