Stray - Cadaretta MS

(late December 2020)

Executive Summary

It is fitting that for 2020 that I had a rescue on the last day of the year. Mary Anne contacted me in mid-afternoon, she and her husband Reb had been trying to rescue a young stray kitty out of a tree near Cadaretta MS since 10:00 am that morning. The kitty was at a rural location, and probably had been dumped. It was about 35 feet up, and a rescue attempt with a tall ladder and a long net pole had failed. I immediately packed and headed out, as bad weather would arrive in a couple of hours. After arrival, I quickly established a rope in the tree and headed up. It was clear this kitty was not feral, as it kept rubbing its head and kneading its paws, happy that I was there to rescue her. The kitty went into the cat bag with no fuss, and Mary Anne took charge of her on the ground. Mary Anne is extremely active in animal rescue, and planned to take the kitty to the vet on Monday for checkup/spaying, after which she would either adopt or find a home for the kitty. In talking with Reb, we discovered a lot in common - basically the same age, we both have twin brothers, Reb flew F15s in the service and now flies for FedX, while my twin also flew F15s in the Air Force and now flies for UPS - Reb and my brother did not cross paths in the service, but had acquaintances in common. Connecting with Mary Anne was fortunate, as she now has my contact info for future stuck-in-tree kitties!
