"Nelly" Needs Me

(late September 2021)

Executive Summary

Katerynn contacted me at noon about "Nelly", a young black kitty that had been stuck overnight near Caledonia MS. In a weird coincidence, a photographer (Adam Robinson) and reporter (Blake Alsup) from the Tupelo Daily Journal were enroute to interview me about cat rescues, we were scheduled to meet at 1:00 pm. I called them, and they agreed to meet me in Caledonia. When I arrived, Katerynn, a concerned neighbor Dale, and the Daily Journal duo were waiting for me. Nelly was also waiting for me, except she was stuck 50 feet up up a sweetgum tree. With the DJ photographer snapping pictures, I set a rope above Nelly at 60 feet and started up. Nelly watched me with interest and clearly wanted to be rescued. She hissed a bit when I did the Nab-N-Bag, but settled down on the way down. Dale took charge of Nelly on the ground as Katerynn had to leave to pick up children at school. All ended well. I will link to the DJ article when it becomes available (I have no pictures or video of this rescue). Dale, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
