Morty's Tree Adventure

(early May 2021)

Executive Summary

After returning from Vicksburg and the failed attempt to rescue 'Little Bit', I received a call from Beth in Starkville. An unknown kitty had been stuck up a tree in a neighbor's yard all day, could I help? I asked to her to wait until the next morning to give the kitty a chance to come down on its own. The kitty was still in the tree the next day, so I arrived at 9:00 am. I was met by Beth's two young daughters, who wanted to tell me all about the stuck kitty. Alex, the neighbor, graciously allowed me in his backyard to do the rescue. The kitty was 35 feet up a hardwood and crying for a rescue. Clearly this was someone's pet, and not a feral cat. The kitty spooked when I set a rope above him, and he came down to about 10 feet. It was trivial to go up the rope and rescue him, as the kitty was happy to see me. On the ground, I scanned for a microchip but none was found. With great enthusiasm from her daughters, Beth agreed to care for the kitty while searching for its owner. A lost pet post was made on the Oktibbeha County Humane Society Facebook page and the owner was soon located. "Morty" was reunited with two little girls that had been missing him, all ended happily!
