Lylah Belle makes it Hard

(late May 2021)

Executive Summary

Cindy contacted me about 'Lylah Belle', a young rescue kitty (rescued from a garbage bin and bottle fed) that had been stuck about five days. Lylah Belle was described as skittish, but only about 30 feet up. This was not the first time Lylah Belle had been stuck. The previous time she was much higher, and a tree-climber cousin spurred up the tree as high he could and then cut the top out in order to get Lylah on the ground. Because of Lylah's skittish nature, the initial plan was to haul Cindy's teenage daughter up into the tree as Lylah would respond to her. However, when trying to set the rope, Lylah went up to 60 feet and out on a limb. This nixed that plan. Plan B was to do the rescue the hard way. Because the tree was covered with vines, I had to set a rope at 30 feet, and then work my way up the tree using my climbing hook. When I finally reached Lylah's limb, she ignored my food bribe, dodged my rescue pole attempt, and retreated to the end of the limb. At this point Cindy agreed we should cut the limb, so I rigged it with a second rope so that is would not fall to the ground, and cut it slowly so that it would crack and bend down. When the limb started falling, Lylah hung on for a while, then jumped from about 40 feet. She hit the ground, ran inside, and hit the food dishes. Clearly she was ok. Cindy, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
