"Devil" in Trouble

(early February 2022)

Executive Summary

Caleb in Fulton, MS contacted me about his kitty, 'Devil Cat Anse HatField' (i.e 'Devil' for short, Devil Anse Hatfield was the patriarch of the Hatfields). Devil had been stuck for two days, could I help? When I exited the truck the next day, it was gray with snowflakes drifting down. As my sorely-missed Dad used to say, 'It was cold as a Witch's tit!' (I have no personal experience with said item and cannot comment on how cold or hot it may be....but I digress). Devil was about 45 feet up, on a long leader that angled up from the main trunk by about 45 degrees. I put a rope near the crotch he was on, but a nub stopped the rope from going over the limb. So, I pulled the rope down and tried again. This time it went directly over the crotch that Devil was sitting in, and we were afraid that it might pin Devil against the branch. So Caleb climbed on a top of a shed next to the tree and was able to coax Devil down the limb a little bit. The limb began bouncing quite a bit as I tried to climb which scared Devil, and he came down all the way down to the main trunk at about 30 feet. This made the rescue much easier. I pulled down the rope, put it above Devil on the main trunk, and then climbed up for quick Nab-N-Bag (Devil was thrilled to see me!). Back on the ground, Caleb took Devil in for food, water and warmth. Caleb, thanks for all of your help during the rescue, a warm end to a cold day!
