A late night text message from Lucy said that an unknown kitty had been stuck in their tree for three days in Meridian, could I help? I contacted her the next day, and was at the house by mid-morning. The poor kitty was sitting in a tangle of poison ivy vines about 35 feet up a tall pine tree. I put my rope at the first available good limb, which was at 80 feet. As I climbed upwards, the kitty remained still, eyes closed, head down, looking extremely tired. The kitty did not move even when I trimmed a nearby limb to gain better access. I drew even with the kitty, pulled on a vine to get closer, and this finally caused the kitty to raise its head. I made a quick scruff grab to prevent the kitty from jumping, but the kitty did not struggle at all and went calmly into the bag. Back on the ground, Lucy took the kitty inside for food and water. After some packing, I joined her so that I could scan for a microchip, but no chip was found. The kitty was definitely domesticated as it allowed both of us to pet it. Hopefully Lucy will be able to find the owner or someone to adopt the kitty.
