"Murphy" Cries For Help

(early August 2021)

Executive Summary

It was a Sunday morning, and I received a text from Amy in Jackson. Her six month old black kitty named Murphy had been stuck for about 36 hours in a tree at her neighbors, help! I packed the truck and arrived about noon. Amy met me as I exited the truck, and I could hear Murphy loudly crying for help. The neighbors (Josh and Carol) who owned the house came out and greeted me, and led me to a group of sweet gums in one corner of their yard. Murphy was about 50 feet up one of them, near the top, crying his heart out. We were joined later by Amy's teenage son, and her brother (Nathan) and his wife (Claire), all who were extremely concerned about Murphy. Because of limb obstructions, I put a rope about 25 feet up a neighboring tree. When I reached that tie-point, I used my climbing hook to get to Murphy's tree, climbed to the hook tie-in, and then advanced it once more close to Murphy. As I neared Murphy, he was happy to see me and came down one limb to make the Nab-N-Bag a little easier. Everyone on the ground cheered when Murphy was safely in the bag. Back on the ground, Amy took Murphy inside for food and water, and to reunite him with his doggie sisters. All ended happily, hopefully Murphy will stay on the ground from now on. Amy, Claire, and Nathan -- many thanks for your generous donations to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
