Elaine from Toomsuba had contacted me back in late May during the evening about Smokey, who had been chased up a tree by a neighbor's dog. At the time, Smokey had been in the tree for five days, and local rescue attempts had failed. The next morning when I was packing the truck Elaine texted me with the good news that Smokey was out of the tree. Unfortunately, the neighbor's dog chased Smokey up a different tree this time, and he had only been in the tree one night when Elaine texted me early in the morning. I packed the truck and headed out. I was met at the tree by Chris, Elaine's adult son and chief of the local volunteer fireman department -- he was ready to help in any way possible, Elaine was at work. Fortunately, Smokey was only about 30 feet up a young oak tree, so the rescue did not look difficult. I set a rope at 35 feet in a neighboring tree, and was soon at height with Smokey, who was glad to see me. I pulled myself over to Smokey's tree, and made the Nab-N-Bag. Smokey was not happy in the bag, but quieted on the trip back to the ground. Chris took Smokey inside for food and water, and hopefully the neighbor's dog will stay inside his fence in the future. Elaine later send me post rescue pictures showing Smokey relaxing after his ordeal.
