Butters - A TRAP WAS NEEDED

(early November 2020)

Executive Summary

Tori tagged me in a Facebook post about a stuck kitty near Northport AL. I responded by posting information about a local resource, but the kitty was still stuck the next day, so Stacy (poster) forwarded my contact information to the kitty owner. After Julia (kitty owner) contacted me, I was at the tree by early afternoon. "Butters", a 6- month old yellow female, was about 50 feet up a pine, running all over the tree, crying loudly. I thought it might be an easy rescue but Butters spooked during rope setup and retreated to the end of a long limb. She did not respond to food bribes, so I decided on a trap rescue instead of a risky pole grab. Julia attached the trap to my utility cord, and after pulling it up, I had it installed in short order. Back on the ground, I retreated to the truck to wait for Butters to investigate the trap. Instead, Butters remain laser-focused on my truck and did not budge an inch, she knew that I was still around! After a 30 minute wait, I retrieved my gear, but left the rope in the tree and drove away. Ten minutes down the road, Julia called me with the great news that Butters was in the trap! I turned around and was soon back at height in the tree with Butters in the trap. I retrieved the trap and descended. On the ground, Butters turned into a purr monster and allowed me to scritch her through the cage. Butters could have made this much easier if she had only trusted me earlier! Julia, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
