As it was August and it was unlikely that any more propitious day would dawn for a long ride, John together with Clyde, David, Brian, Jeff, Phil and Howard (acting as back marker) headed for the Viaduct Tea Rooms at Holland's Nurseries Twyford. Setting out via Cross Lane, to avoid the Tesco roundabout junction, the riders went via Howe Road to reach the shared path along Ling Road. They then headed across the Soar to Barrow, out on Melton Road before turning right through Seagrave. After crossing the A46 the group descended swiftly through Thrussington and into Rearsby where several washed their wheels in the ford. They then headed south east through Gaddesby and Ashby Folville before reaching Twyford and climbing to the Viaduct Cafe at Holland's Nurseries where refreshments were taken while they admired the view. The return was a fairly rapid descent to Queniborough along South Groxton Road with the riders then proceeding via East Goscote, Cossington, Sileby and Mountsorrel to Loughborough where they arrived at 12.30 after a ride of c. 35 miles.

Six riders decided on a shorter ride than John's and decided that Ellis tea rooms at Rothley station would be a nice venue. The ride lead by Derek together with Ann, Terry , Rob, Patrick and Myles set off out of Loughborough and picked up the cycle path on Epinal way headed up through Quorn, Woodhouse Swithland eventually turning right on to the Ridings to admire the lovely houses before stopping for refreshments at Ellis tea rooms at Rothley Station.

After our tea and cake we realised we were a little early to return home so we went via Cropston then through Bradgate park to Newtown Lindford so we could enjoy the big long decent from Beacon Hill to Quorn, before returning to Loughborough at noon.
