Buttermilk Biscuits

Modified from Fanny Farmer

2 cups flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp baking powder

1 tbsp sugar

1/2 cup shortening

2/3 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 425. Put flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and sugar into a bowl. Cut shortening into flour. Add buttermilk all at once and stir just until dough forms a ball around the fork. Knead about 14 times on a floured board. Pat until 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch rounds. Place touching each other on pan or greased cake pans. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
