Irish Guinness Brown Bread

Modified from Food Network

1 cup quick cooking oats

2 1/4 cup wheat flour

1/4 cup flour

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

2 1/4 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

2 tsp salt

1 (11 to 12 oz) bottle Guinness

1 cup buttermilk (I make it with milk and lemon juice)

5 tbsp butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 450.  

In large bowl, combine oats, flours, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.  In a separate bowl, whisk the beer, buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla.  Make a well in dry ingredients and pour the wet into it.  Stir batter until well mixed.  

Grease a loaf pan.  Pour batter into it and sprinkle top with oats.  Put bread in oven and turn down to 400.  Bake for 45 minutes or until done.
