Chocolate Chip Apple Bread

Modified from blog

Topping

2 tbsp mini chocolate chips

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp butter, softened

1/2 tsp cinnamon

(1/3 toasted walnuts, finely chopped) - I did NOT use these but they did

Bread

2 cups flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/2 cup butter, softened (they used unsalted here and above, I did not)

1 cup sugar

2 eggs (they used large, I used extra large)

2 tbsp buttermilk (milk and lemon juice!)

1 tbsp vanilla

1 1/2 tsp apples, chopped (I used my own frozen, which I did try to pat dry)

3/4 cup mini chocolate chips (they used 1/4 cup chocolate, 1/2 cup walnuts)

Grease bread pan. Mix crumb toppings in one bowl and set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk flour and spices. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla. Mix until combined. On low speed, gradually add in flour mixture. Stir in apples and chips (and nuts if using). Pour into loaf pan and sprinkle with crumb topping.

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick passes. This is for the full loaf. I also did some minis, they took 30-40 minutes.
