Eleven plus the captains from the Tuesday Group went sailing on September 16, 2014. We had three sailing vessels, Island Dream, Starchaser and Crew Rest. With excitement, the boats departed Fort Monroe Marina headed for the high seas. At first the winds felt good but, as time went on it began to slack off until the boats barely moved. We stood off Fort Monroe adjacent to the Thimble Shoals Channel looking at the scenery. At one point we saw a dolphin! Several ships passed including an aircraft carrier. It was a fun sail even without ever burying the rails in the water like we had hoped. After our return to the dock in accordance with the Tuesday Group traditions everyone was ready for ice cream. Our destination was Sebastian’s on Mercury Boulevard. You can imagine our disappointment when we arrived at the place of business only to find it had closed. (I guess we did not buy enough ice cream to keep the business open.) Not giving up we headed to McDonalds only to find their ice cream machine was broken. Now, we were really starting to worry. Finally, Hardee’s across the street came through with everyone getting a cold milkshake.
Special thanks to Captains Ron and Barry for giving us a unique day on the water.
