Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills Bike Tour
In spite of strong NE 10-20 mph winds, cool damp weather, and “invading alligators”, two Tuesday Groupers again proved just how intrepid our group can be on any Tuesday adventure!!!
OK, to be truthful, make that one invading alligator rather than many. Also, again being truthful, you could say Kathy O (aka KAO) and Sandy C, during their 23 mile bike ride through NC’s Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills OBX neighborhoods actually did not see the 9’ alligator but they did ride into the Kitty Hawk neighborhood and pass the home where the alligator had been spotted Monday, captured, tagged and released.
On top of the winds, the weather and viewing the gator’s “temporary” neighborhood, the ride still proved to be interesting, fun and different. Several wrong turns took us into before unseen neighborhoods, a large crowded vacation trailer park, and even had us taking a couple of necessary short cuts. One short cut in particular could have caused a flat tire or two had not a nice contractor called out before coming over and then walking ahead in the field to point out the flat wide cactus with strong long spikes we were to avoid. His assistance until we both reached the hard surface road probably was a blessing in disguise.
Lunch at the locally owned Goombays on the beach road was a welcome break, and the food was wonderful….so much so neither of us had room for anything but some cheese and crackers Tuesday night.
