This past Tuesday, 11/29/2022, I celebrated two great events.
The first was a silent “Happy Birthday” wish sent my mother when I first awoke.
The Second was the realization I was taking the lead that day for a return visit by the Tuesday Group to
both CNU’s Torggler Fine Arts Center, and, following lunch, gathering everyone for an extended hike on
the Mariner’s Museum Noland Trail. The hike distance then would be determined by each hiker.
Last things first, The greater majority of the hikers started together at l:15pm, and we started counter
clockwise from 5 TGer’s who started earlier. Those earlier 5 went clockwise, and this ensured we who
started later counter clockwise, and who also planned to hike the entire 5 mile trail, would have a meet
and greet somewhere along the trail later in the afternoon. It worked!!,
Several in the larger counter clockwise group returned to their cars after hiking their planned distance
of 2 or 3 miles. The remaining 5 counter clockwise hikers, me included, crossed path later with the 5
earlier clockwise hikers just as everyone planned.
Mother Nature’s weather for the entire day was absolutely perfectly beautiful (cool, dry, sunny,
windless) and began even before everyone met earlier that morning in the lobby of the Torggler Fine
Arts Center for a guided tour of the Center’s one year anniversary exhibits.
Ms. Barbara Stephenson , a CNU Art History Professor and Educational Guide for the Torggler , warmly
welcomed us before then conducting a fascinating tour of featured anniversary exhibits which can be
appreciated only if you visit https://thetorggler.org/exhibits/.
Nothing written here could do justice to anything we viewed that day, although many fascinating,
behind the scene, stories about Ansel Adams in particular, stories behind the making/taking of some
pictures, and about the other featured artists only were possible because of the knowledge Ms.
Stephenson shared with us as a group or when talking to individuals or answering individual questions
as she walked around as we walked around.
Frankly, I plan to return because I also missed too much by also talking to others
One exhibit which many talked about later was not one of the featured special ones for the event but
was a room filled with art by CNU faculty and staff. Several TGer’s visited and took pictures in that
gallery. I didn’t even get there, another reason for my return.
Take care, and hopefully some of us will see each other again next Tuesday on Bruce D. bike ride.

Sandy put together an unusual Tuesday adventure. We toured the new exhibits at the Torggler Museum of Fine Arts at Christopher Newport University that included Ansel Adams photos, a Camera Obscura and some other strange stuff. After the tour we hiked the Noland Trail counterclockwise. Perfect weather and a big group!
Thanks Sandy!!
