What a great day we had! Most of our group of 26 met at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel parking lot behind the administration building, while a few headed straight for our Eastern shore rendez vous location. Stephanie checked in at the CBBT office, and talked with Officer Lassiter who was very gracious in allowing us to park there for the day.
From there we caravanned across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and on into Eastville, parking at the courthouse.
On our 10 miles heading towards Savage Neck dunes was on low traffic roads and we were able to explore new areas for just about everybody in the group—it’s always hard to find an area that at least someone hasn’t been before! We all seemed to really like Smith Beach where we found cute cottages, many for rent, along the Chesapeake Bay. Really a beautiful location.
By the time we got to the actual dunes, the weather had changed, became overcast and started to sprinkle. On the beach it was really windy, with the sand getting into our sandwiches. Just a little extra crunch! Sandra Canepa won the prize for being the first to spot the nearly extinct North Eastern Beach Tiger Beetle.
After the ride we went to the Machipongo Trading Company for our usual ice cream treats. A fun day was had by all.
