Unexpectedly nice weather greeted us (24 TG'ers) at Ft. Monroe yesterday....along with an immediate submarine sighting and a brigade of cormorants as we began a 5 mile hike at our newest national park. Among the group were lots of faces we'd not seen in awhile--
Also jump-starting our day: hints as to the location of Natalie and Lou Gehosky's geocache, planted near the fort just days before (they have since returned to their home in Pennsylvania).
NOT IN A TRENCH, BUT COULD BE BY A BENCH
BY A CANON IT IS PROTECTED, SO IT WON'T BE DETECTED
ONE PERSON'S TRASH COULD BE GEHOSKY'S CACHE
UNDERNEATH IT ALL IS THE STASH!
We pondered these hints as we walked along the seawall. At the north end, the group split up--some wished to return via the beach, some via the concrete boardwalk.
15 mph wind gusts picked up as we neared the museum entrance. . .and site of the hidden cache, uncovered by none other than Sherry. Included in a bag filled with ephemera was a $20 bill to put toward ice cream at Sebastian's at the hike's end!
Then we were off to the Yacht Club to gobble our sack lunches. After warming up there, the remaining 12 of us zipped over to Casemate Museum for the better part of an hour. By 2 p.m. a light drizzle accompanied us back to our cars for a last stop at Sebastian's to spend the Gehosky's $20 ice cream contribution. THANK YOU NAT AND LOU!
