Starting at NN City Park, 18 bike riders rode on the Bikeway to Washington's Headquarters in the Colonial National Historical Park. The Bikeway was in good condition, considering our recent heavy rains, with just a few wet areas. No ice, as fortunately the morning temperature was just above freezing. We followed the Yorktown Battlefield roads, fording the stream below the HQ, passing the French Loop, the bridge over Route 17, down the Italian Loop, through the woods onto the Colonial Parkway, and arriving at the Visitor's Center for a rest stop. We were a bit early for lunch at the Yorktown Pub, so we biked to the Yorktown Victory Monument for a group photo, then down to Water Street, past Yorktown Riverwalk Landing and up to the cannon in front of the Yorktown Victory Center. In honor of Margaret's cannon accident, we took a photo of Bruce standing on the cannon without falling. After an excellent seafood lunch at the "Pub", we biked/walked up the hill and headed toward the Coast Guard Station. A right turn took us down to the Wormley Creek dam. We followed the battlefield roads and bikeway back to our starting point. We were happy that the temperature had climbed considerably, enough that a few of us were able to customarily enjoy eating frozen yogurt at Sweet Frog. Total distance: 18.5 miles.
