17th Annual Triathlon at False Cape St. Pk.
We did the 17th Annual Triathlon yesterday and it was one of the best we ever had, especially the weather we had for the day. We all met at Little Island City Park and after repairing one flat tire, one broken brake, the group of 10, headed towards Back Bay Wildlife Refuge. We had John & Jane O. Carolyn S. Phyllis N. Kathy P. Kevin M. John F. Cecil S. John B. and the leader of the gang, me, Bruce J.
There was hardly any wind blowing and the ride through the refuge went very well, stopping at False Cape State Park Gate to take a picture there at their sign, we then biked on down to the boat dock at Barbour Hill. I passed out the PFD’S and paddles to everyone and they picked out a kayak to paddle the 2 miles down to False Cape Landing Boat Dock. It did get a little hot on the paddle, but we all made it O K, but I had some watermelon in my pack and there was enough for everyone to have a slice, it was cold and very good.
Now it was time to do the hiking part of our trip, and after we tied the kayaks up to the boat dock, and everyone got their gear ready to hike, we decided to take the Maple Leaf Trail over to the beach. We stopped at 2 of the picnic tables and had our lunch, that everyone had brought with them, and after about 25 minutes we hiked out to the ocean, it was so beautiful with a cool breeze blowing. We took a few pictures and after about 30 minutes here we started back.
Hiking back to the bay side of the State Park, we hiked on False Cape Landing Road over to the boat dock. The paddle back was much easier with a cool tail wind blowing us north up to Barbour’s Hill Boat Dock. After we put everything back in the boat house and locked it up, we biked up to the Visitor Center for ice cream and a bathroom break. We were there only about 20 minutes, and then we headed up too Little Island City Park, and with that same tail wind the trip back was much faster. We pulled into the parking lot right at 3:30 P.M. on time.
I want to thank False Cape State Park for the use of their kayaks, and to everyone that came on our triathlon this year, it was a great group of Tuesday Groupers. Bruce J.
