After weeks of freezing weather and multiple snow falls, we were treated to a rare day of sunshine and warmth. As temperatures soared into the high 50s, 26 Tuesday Groupers hiked the Noland Trail. Walking today were Cynthia, Bronwyn, Kim, Sherri, Bill, Kathy, Bill, Tom, Dorothy, Vic, Bruce, Margaret, Jane, John, Ed, Judy, Richard, Catherine, Dan, Steve, Stephanie, Bob, Sharon, Lance, Kevin and me, Phyllis. Afterwards the group split with some of us eating at Column 15 (and got to enjoy some of Sherri's chocolate) and others going to Harpoon Larrys. Another great day for the Tuesday Group!

This hike had the perfect conditions for one of my favorite winter activities. That would be playing with air bubbles under the ice!
Below the bridge on the trail was a thin layer of ice that was perfect for making air bubbles. You make the air bubbles by simply throwing a small rock through the ice. The rock goes to the bottom but enough air entered through the hole to form several bubbles. Usually these little bubbles combine to form larger ones.
These larger bubbles wandered around under the ice while we cheered them on from our perch on the bridge overhead. These bubbles wander around until they were sucked up out of the water by a leaf frozen in the ice. I was surprised that some of the Tuesday Groups had never made ice bubles before! We had lots of fun watching the bubbles until someone inadvertently threw her beloved expensive earmuffs way out onto the ice while she was trying to throw a rock. They were way beyond the reach of a trekking pole!
John came to the rescue with his rope and pocket knife from his famous backpack.
After the hike, the Column lunch venue closed early so some of us went to Harpoon Larry's for lunch.
Thanks Phyllis for a great day on the trail in perfect weather!
