After several days of threatening forecasts of scattered thunder storms for today, we awoke to a forecast of no rain. And, true to the forecast, it turned out to be a beautiful day for a bike ride on the Capital Trail. The day started out overcast with temperatures around 70 degrees. During lunch the sun began to peek out and we had mostly sunny skies for the ride after lunch with temperatures around 80 degrees. Could not have asked for better weather for the ride.
We began the ride at Chickahominy Riverfront Park with 24 adult riders and two “munchkins” ages 5 and 3 riding in a cart behind PaPa’s bike. PaPa was a little concerned about making the entire trip, but pushed on and completed the full 28 miles.
Lunch stop was at the Cul’s Courthouse Grille at Charles City Courthouse. We were able to sit outdoors on their patio and enjoy the sun and beautiful weather. After lunch, we made the return ride back to Chickahominy Park. And, I understand a few folks added a stop at Brewster’s for ice cream, to keep up the Tuesday Group tradition.
We did have 3 mishaps with minor accidents on the trip, but all seemed to survive with just scrapes and bruises. I was told that I had won the prize as trip leader with the most “incidents”!
Along the way we encountered a group of bikers who had started out last Saturday in Boston! Biked from Richmond to Jamestown today and then returned to Richmond for tonight. A bit beyond the distance of the Tuesday Group!
