Lee Lohman proposed to amend the Board's May 3, 2023, decision about TATC Health and Safetyauthority and procedures. Several other proposals were offered. The proposal approved resulted in adopting the following policy: TATC events will be conducted with the health and safety of the participants as the uppermost consideration recognizing that many club activities involve hazardous, and sometimes very hazardous, activities and working conditions. In all cases, the health and safety requirements of the relevant governmental bodies will be followed. In addition, the Board of Directors will define event and activity's "best practices" that event leaders and participants must follow. Specifically, this includes wearing PFDs for paddling events and wearing bike helmets on biking events.

Over the past several years I've worked with, assisted and attended many of the events put on by Rick Wiebush of Cross Currents. I think we have talked in the past about one of his signature events, the Kiptopeke Sea Kayak Symposium.
Rick publishes a newsletter several times a year titled Coast Busters. The March 2023 issue was of particular interest as it contains detailed results of a baby boomer motivations survey of his followers that he conducted last Fall, there were over 400 respondents. I'll say it first, some of us are a bit outside of the BB category, on the highside! It also contains some interesting Coast Guard-related articles and one on a trip to Alaska.
Reading through the newsletter I realized that the survey results and conclusions described our Tuesday Group to a 'T', and thought it would be worthwhile to share with our group.
If you agree, could you please pass this along, and for the paddlers in our group, Cross Currents offers a lot of paddling opportunities, local and world wide, check out his website at (https://www.crosscurrentsseakayaking.com/).

8/24/14 Tuesday Group Website Changes:
As many of you are aware, maintaining the TG website is a very time consuming process. We are currently looking for ways to reduce our time investment yet maintain a quality site for your use for our Tuesday activities. To this end we will make the following changes:
Effective immediately we will no longer attempt to mirror items listed on the TATC website. We will add a link to all future emails advising interested individuals to click on the link to the TATC website for the latest information about TATC Club Activities. The only exception will be AT maintenance and the general membership meetings. This policy will be phased in over the next month.
Ad hoc activities will be eliminated i.e. movies, concerts, special activities etc. conducted, especially on days other than Tuesdays. We will continue to accept and request individuals to lead Tuesday activities as long as they submit the details in advance and use the TATC Waiver. We hope each hike leader will continue to submit after activity reports and pictures for posting.
We believe that these minor changes will streamline the website saving time and website space. If you have any questions please contact Ellis or Phyllis.
TATC Cabin
The TATC cabin is available to rent most weekdays. If you are a TATC member and have attended the mandatory orientation/maintenance cabin work trip call Bob A at 627- 5514 for more information.
Notice: Activity leaders may limit the number of people who can participate depending on the event. It is recommended you sign up early to avoid being placed on a waiting list.
In order to participate in our activities you must agree to the Waiver and Release of All Claims:
I know that outdoor activities conducted by the Tidewater Appalachian Trail Club, a Virginia nonprofit corporation, are potentially hazardous. I will not participate unless I am medically able, properly trained, and properly equipped. I agree to abide by any decision of an Activity Leader relative to my ability to safely complete the activity.
I assume all risks associated with participating in any activity, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, effects of the weather (including heat and humidity), traffic and road conditions, trail and river conditions, and all other risks, known or unknown.
Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and in consideration of participating in an activity, I for myself and anyone entitled at act on my behalf, waive and release the Tidewater Appalachian Trail Club, its officers and directors, volunteers, activity leaders, and co participants in any activity, their representatives and successors, from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in any activity.
