In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous–Aristotle
On a cold snowy day twenty-five (plus our canine friend Aubrey) from the Tuesday Group drove down to Merchants Millpond to enjoy each other’s company and nature. The roads were tricky but, not too bad. Meeting at the visitors center excitement build as the group began arriving. The rangers came by all wishing us well on our hike. We must have been quite a sight because several of the park staff took our pictures. As we started the hike along the pond we looked with wonder at the snow on the Cypress trees standing tall out in the cold water. It was truly magical to walk among the trees in the falling snow. No animals of the forest were seen this day. However, evidence of a flock of wild turkeys recently foraging on the forest floor was seen here and there in the disturbed leaves. Our lunch stop was near the backpacking campsite were we found large logs to sit on near the outhouse. Winding our way back to our starting point we had hiked 7.7 miles. After saying our goodbyes some of us upheld the long standing tradition of the TG by stopping in Sunbury to buy ice-cream. Our day in Merchants Millpond State Park had ended as our minds were already thinking of next week’s adventure.
