On 10 July, 2018, 17 Tuesday Groupers met at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, Virginia. Armed with their kayaks, the groupers utilized the dry launch ramp and headed upriver. The paddle was gentle with the river looking like glass. Unfortunately, there was also little in the way of a breeze to cool the paddlers off later in the trip. Bill Billings was trying to scare all the Herons and Osprey to get them to flap their wings and cool us off. But on this day the group turned around after and hour and a half on the river and headed back—the idea was to have some energy available after the paddle was complete. Three hours was enough. It worked! (Where was Ken V today when we needed him?) Eleven of the group went to lunch at Smithfield Station and enjoyed an hour of cameraderie and good food. And air conditioning. A good easy day on the water with nice people. It doesn’t get any better.
