Newport News Park Hike 2/3/2015

Our Newport News Park hike had great attendance. On this day we had thirty five join us for our adventure. A police care drove by as we gathered checking to see if we were a flash mob but, after seeing the guys with balding grey hair they decided we were not going to be any trouble. After introductions we started our walk. We wound down the road beside and through the campsite area reaching Civil War entrenchments which were built by the Confederates to hold back the Union troops. They are in amazingly good shape being built over one hundred-fifty years ago. Crossing the First Dam Bridge was a treat with magnificent views of the Reservoir. Reaching the opposite shore a rest room break was needed by some, others, enjoyed reading the Civil War sign boards about the battle that occurred on that spot were the reservoir was filled with so many musket balls it looked like rain hitting the water. Moving on we crossed the Swamp Bridge winding our way to the bike trail and then back to the vehicles. Driving two miles most of us stopped at Little Italy for lunch ending another day of adventure with the Tuesday Group. Thanks to all for coming out for our hike.
