The forecast was for rain and thunderstorms with 50% chance for rain before 1:00 P.M. but John didn't hear this or was it that he didn't care about it. They, the Weathermen, never get it right anyway and the Tuesday Group must go on. We met at Hardee's there in Moyock, N.C. all except 3 of the group. A few did call and say that they would not make the paddle because it was raining cats & dogs early Tuesday morning. We had the lucky number 13 to show up on this day and the luck was all good. We had no rain, little wind, enough clouds to keep back some of the sunshine and plenty of water in the creeks. We have a cut through that takes us back into the woods and off of the North/west River, which we just love to do on this paddle but you need the right amount of water. We started out about 9:30 A.M. and headed up river till we reached the North/West River here we took a left turn off the river and started on the cut through. The Carp were swimming in the shallow water and looked big enough to turn your kayak over if they should hit your boat just right. We all made it by and on the return trip they had gone to deeper waters. We made it to the park around 11:30 A.M. and after some or all went to the bathroom everyone sit down to eat their lunch. Bill had a kite which folds up about the sizes of a trash bag and we tried to get it up into the air but we didn't have enough wind to get it more than 30 feet off the ground. After playing with the kite and a little yellow bird we climbed back into our boats and headed back for Shingles Creek and the put-in. Everyone but Bill stopped at Southland and had ice cream and was it good. Thanks to everyone that came out for today’s paddle.
