Merchants Millpond is one of those special places that I love to visit. The Spanish moss hanging from the Cypress and Tulip Trees gives the place a mysterious feeling that you will not find anywhere else. On this day we had twenty-two people from the TG prowling the lake looking for the alligators. However, the only sighting was a picture on a lady’s cell phone that we happened to run into at the landing. The Duckweed was pretty thick. Occasionally, we had to power through a nearly solid mass of floating vegetation.
We ate lunch at the Group Campground crowding around the one picnic table. Some thinking ahead brought camp stools and others brought plastic bags to sit on. Next time we will rethink the lunch stop.
This sunny October day we had cool temperatures in the morning. At lunch we were stripping off all those extra layers. After the paddle some headed for ice cream at Doris and Rogers upholding the long standing TG tradition. Another great day for the TG.
