I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read and all the friends I want to see. ~John Burroughs
Overcast skies and light snow flurries greeted 23 Tuesday Groupers as we gathered to explore Newport News Park. We have enjoyed bike rides here but I wanted to try out the hiking trails. Winding through the campground loops, we saw a bird ( was it a red tailed hawk or a juvenile bald eagle? ) and a flock of Canada Geese flying in a V formation as well as several deer. A helicopter inspecting a power line was another photo opt. We stopped at several overlooks and Dam #1 Bridge to view Lee Hall Reservoir. Deeper into the park , we took White Oaks Trail to Wynn's Mill Loop to Swamp Fire to the Bikeway back to the start point. Hiking ~7.2 miles, we all enjoyed being outside- good hike, great friends- wonderful camaraderie. We ate at Little Italy, a satisfying and warm ending to another Winter HIke.
