New Quarter Park Hike 3/5/2013
Lucky 13 was the count for today's Tuesday Group adventure: Diane, Bob A, John G, Brian, Dottie, Angie, Bill and Chris M, Frank and Christine, Renee and Tom, and Phyllis. We met at the Park's outer parking lot bright and early for our hike this chilly but sunny morning. Molly Nealer, the Park Superintendent, stopped to talk with us and to wish us a good hike. We meandered at a comfortable pace to the fire ring near Loop 2 to view Queen's Creek and York River beyond. From here we followed the road back to Loop 5 and walked the paths created by TATC several years ago. They looked just as good as they did back when we first constructed them. We stopped at the numerous overlooks to admire the marsh and creek below. At the point of Loop 7, where Queen's Creek and Cub Creek meet, we stopped for an early lunch. We saw osprey and a young Bald Eagle. After lunch, we continued our walk eventually arriving back at the Park office. It was still early so we decided to walk down the road to the canoe dock where we spent some time watching the swift Queen's Creek current, the boats in the Marina (we couldn't spot "Blessed Ellis") and soaking up some early afternoon sun! Then it was time to head back to our vehicles where we decided a trip to the Queen Anne Dari-Snak was in order. Some opted to head home (rookies!) but most finished the outing with a hot fudge sundae. Another splendid day for the Tuesday Group!
