On 11 Oct 2016, sixteen Tuesday Groupers met at the Surry Governmental Center—or ground zero for Surry County. 2016 has been a tough year for this ride with one ride rained out and another that probably should have been called for rain. By contrast, this Tuesday was full sun from sun-up to sun-down. The temperature was 40 degrees at sunrise across the river in Williamsburg, but the temperature made a steep climb to more than pleasant temperatures through the morning. As we set out at 9:30 a.m. (....just kidding, 10:00 a.m.), the group was layered up in clothing with some wondering if they were overdressed and others if they were underdressed for the weather. The temperature continued to warm us up. The ride was just pleasant with no screw-ups or crashes. Our stop at College Run Farms was eventful as most filled up with “two” scoops of pumpkin ice cream. Some pondered trying the pumpkin patch maze, but were advised it would take twenty or so minutes and the group promised to kill anyone who tried it.
A new participant on this day was Brian’s brother-in-law, David P. Also, Jack S. daughter Jill—yes, Jack and Jill rode up the hill. And then the entire group went to the new Surry Seafood Co. restaurant for lunch. We sat inside but contemplated eating on the deck—the place was packed. As we were leaving, we noted the restaurant was empty. It must be a lunch crowd only. A few noted that the “Old Guard” of the Tuesday Group were not there—not Phyllis or Ellis and Marti, nor Bruce and Margaret J, nor Vic and Margaret P. Not even Bill B or Sandra C.
But we still had sixteen people enjoying the company of others who just want to get outdoors. Thank you to Ellis and Phyllis for maintaining the internet site that keeps us together. And for the admin time of answering our e-mails. But since they weren’t there they will have to wait to hear the story of how Melissa scared the s... out of two Norfolk thieves and retrieved the stolen goods for a nice old lady.
