Williamsburg Winery Ride 4/18/2017

On Tuesday, 18 April, eleven Tuesday Groupers left Chickahominy Riverfront Park in James City County and headed east toward Jamestown. It was Easter Week so many regulars not present. This family business gets in the way on some Tuesdays. But the Magnificent Eleven set out with a perfectly tuned temperature of 70 degrees, sunny sky, and a low breeze. Phyllis was welcomed back from her China trip and she regaled us with tales of her travels. Sandra was as inquisitive as always when Brian tried to explain tire sizing—e.g. what is the different between 700 x 23 vs. 700 x 28 tires? Gotta talk about this stuff as the day was pretty uneventful. A breezy ride down the trail with a stop at Jamestown Settlement. The Deputy Director of the Jamestown/Yorktown Foundation came out to greet us and show us his appreciation. He plans to retire in 45 days and may join us on some future rides. We then tuned out to the Colonial Parkway for three miles and then cut through the woods to Treasure Island Road and up to the Williamsburg Winery for lunch. The breeze has whipped up a bit, so they put us inside—this is pollen season. Three wives joined us to make it a party of 14. Carl, Bob S. and Jack S had to behave themselves with their wives there. After a beautiful lunch we backtracked on the same route, with the same beautifully clear sky. A great day with good friends enjoying life as it should be. But no ice cream!*

* Some of us did get ice cream at Jamestown Settlement! PN
