We had a great 8 mile kayak trip with very little rain and NO lighting, when are you Tuesday Groupers going to stop listening to the weather man and come on out and enjoy the outdoors. The tide was high at 9:00 A.M. so we could paddle those creeks we had to miss last time. We paddle around the big island and decided to not head up to the Hwy 17 Bridge that goes over the Nansemond River, but go across to the beautiful beach on the west side of the river. Here we got out and ate an early lunch (11:15 A.M.) and rested for about 25 minutes and Bill took a few pictures. Heading south we stayed on the right side of the river and it was a good thing because as we rounded the point there were 2 Bald Eagles sitting on a tree next to the water line. They didn't stay around very long but we all, (Bill, Sandra. Bruce) did get to see them, very beautiful. We paddle about 3/4 of a mile towards Downtown Suffolk and then cut across the river to one of the largest homes on our Paddle. Now we were on the east side of the river and we had no wind at all. Following the shore line seeing all of the big homes and all of the boat docks that the other half build and have to play with, we paddled back to the shore line and took our boats out, it was only 1:10 P.M.We packed our boats and gear and headed home and it was a good thing because by the time I unloaded my kayak the bottom fell out. The 3 of us paddled 8 miles in 4 hours and saw about 10 Egret's, 5 Great Blue Herons and the two Bald Eagles. I had a fish try not one but twice to jump into my boat but the apron I had on prevented him from doing that. Thanks for Sandra and Bill B. for coming out and having a great day in the outdoors.
