Sarah's Creek 6-30-15

Once in a while things just seem to fall into place. We have wanted to paddle Sarah’s Creek for years. We just could not figure out how. After some research the Gloucester Point Marina was located. It has the only suitable boat ramp anywhere on the Creek to launch our boats. Margaret the manager worked with us in a very welcoming way to make our day on the water memorable.

Arriving at 9:15, after conducting our safety talk, and introductions we started our paddle towards the creek mouth. We had hoped to land on a sandy beach, however, after sighting a no trespassing sign and two very big dogs we decided to move on. Paddling up the Northeastern branch we enjoyed the many homes. We talked to one lady working on a point of land who was preparing the yard for her daughter’s wedding. Everyone we saw was amazed to see all the colorful boats in their back yards. Paddling back to the Marina we used the marina’s picnic tables and a nice shady spot under a tree where many of us set up chairs for lunch. The conversation was as delightful as the setting. After lunch we paddled under the Tidemill Road Bridge of the Northwestern Branch to the end. After returning to the marina loading our boats many of us went to Twisters for some very good ice cream. The statistics for the day: 33 people, 31 boats, mileage 6.58, and one very good time for the Tuesday Group.
