The Jordan Bridge Exploit – 13 January 2013
Bill R
Parking about a mile away I peddled carefully to the west end of the new Jordan Bridge. Such a sight lay before me, a curving, rising highway thread with a separate, free, bike-pedestrian lane on the south side of the bridge.
The ride up was slow, with many huff-puff stops along the way. But I made it to the top without walking the peddle machine. Granted, the surrounding area is all shipyard and industry. But, in its own right, it’s quite attractive and there is quite a view.
One walker passed by as I took a breather, several more were passed (including families) as I came back down. Reversing the normal position, from the top I had a lovely look down at a passing adult bald eagle.
Traveling up, then back down, many stops were made for photos and ooohs and ahhhhs. At the bottom I noticed a side street with a dirt side street. There there were three parked cars (bridge walkers ?) and several trash receptacles. It appears to be a parking area just for bridge walkers.
Once down I peddled and explored underneath the bridge and the nearby area, being very mindful of NO TRESPASSING, KEEP OUT, and similar signs. It’s hard to enumerate the many photo ops available. Two notables were a shot of the curving bridge above, with its reflection in a rain puddle, and a shot of another bridge under the Jordan Bridge.
It was not a long ride, but it was interesting and a challenge for this oldster. Recommended ? Yes ! I’ve sent photos to Ellis.
