Winery Ride 8-27-19

On 27 Aug, thirteen Tuesday Groupers descended on Chickahominy Riverfront Park to ride a bike for 12.5 miles to the Williamsburg Winery. They arrived despite traffic accidents in both major bridge-tunnels in tidewater, dismal forecasts from all major weather forecasts, and the disappointment of feeling rudderless since neither Phyllis ,the Malabads,or Bruce J could make the ride this day. The group waited for the last stragglers from the traffic tie-ups, wandered down the Cap2Cap trail to Jamestown Settlement, and turned onto the Colonial Parkway, then turned up Treasure Island Road until we reached the winery. We ate a wonderful leisurely lunch in the Gabriel Archer tavern at their outside pergola, and then retraced the route back to the start. A few clouds marked the sky, but none threatened to rain. The temperature was moderate, the wind was negligible, and the friendship was abundant. Most went to Brusters for ice cream afterward. Check the pictures for Jack’s Banana Split—you won’t believe it—it is quite large. It was a great day. And, no, Jack didn’t finish the Banana Split.
