First Landing State Park 10-1-13

On a beautiful Fall day, 18 Tuesday Groupers met at 64th St. entrance to First Landing State Park to do maintenance on the Cape Henry Trail Extension which runs about 1.6 miles to the Narrows/ Boat Ramp area. TATC has just agreed to adopt this trail, adding it to the two we already maintain in this park. This was our first work day, led by Diana R. We were met by a park ranger, Bryan, who supplied tools and went with us. We pruned back branches and vines, cleared the tread way and picked up several large bags of litter. Kama found the most unusual litter of the day when she discovered a hibachi grill, dishes, food scraps and many bottles. Bryan said he spends 4 hours every Monday picking up litter along the beach of the Narrows but there is always more hiding off the trails. Low water levels allowed us to search some exposed areas also. Arriving at the Narrows area, we took a short break then walked back on the trail to the parking lot. Lunch followed at C.J.Shuckers .

Good day of volunteering Tuesday Groupers.
