A movie, lunch and birthday cake 12/2/2014

A cold wet day cast a shadow over our original plans for a Dismal Swamp paddle so most of us opted instead for a movie at the AMC 24 in Hampton. It was a good choice. On board for this intergalactic adventure were Ellis and Marti, Ron and Sue, Ed and Judy, Margaret P, Steve, Sandy C and me. The flick was the sci-fi thriller "Interstellar" starring Matthew MacConaughey and Anne Hathaway. This was a three hour roller coaster ride of nail biting on the edge of your seat suspense with the fate of mankind and a dying Earth relying on a last chance mission into space. Scientists have located a wormhole near Saturn and believe a new potentially habitable planet awaits on the other side. This movie has just about everything: rocketships, black holes, physics, secret laboratories, ice planets, water planets, tsunamis, evil (spoiler!!!!) Matt Damon, lots and lots of corn and some mind-bending physics. And yes, it had a happy ending. We headed to the Crab Shack afterwards for a delicious lunch AND birthday cake! Marti had baked a cake for my birthday with candles and a little kayaker made of icing. It was the best day ever!!!
