15th Annual Triathlon 9/27/22

Well, we have another Triathlon in the books, and it was one of the best with 24 Tuesday Groupers arriving at Little Island City Park to join in the fun. We had John Fisher to drive up from North Carolina, we had not seen him in a long while and it was good to see him. Richard Tarr came in with a couple of others he had invited to try their first Triathlon; they were Dana and Shelby, with her Electric Bike. We also had Helen, Debbie, Bill and Kevin to do their first Triathlon.

Carolyn Sanford needed a pair of pliers to work on her bike and I had a pair, and so did Helen Blaylock and she put her pair in her pack and took them with her which worked out great because John Oakes had locked his and Jane’s bikes up together and somehow lost the key and Kevin use the pliers to cut into the cable and free John’s Bikes. Bob Safford had locked his bike up at the Visitors Center and then his key would not open his lock and they got a pair of pliers from the office and cut through it to free his bike. It was not a good day for bicycle locks.

At Barbour Hill Boat Dock we picket out our kayaks and I gave out the PFD’s and Paddles and we headed out towards the Bald Eagles Nest but couldn’t find the Eagles anywhere. Out of the 24 to show we had 5 that didn’t want to kayak the 2 miles and they rode their bikes on down to False Cape Landing where we had our lunch. We did hike out to the beach and 3 or 4 decided to go wading out into the ocean to cool their feet off. Hiking back to the picnic tables we all had our lunch and rested up for the trip back.

We hike back to the Kayaks at Spratt’s Cove and headed back up to Barbour Hill and after putting everything away and getting John’s bikes free we headed to the Visitors Center for another stop and bathroom break. From here we biked the 6.5 miles back to Little Island City Park where we had left some 7 hours and 19 miles earlier.

The weather was great, the water was smooth, and the people were some of the best. I think we all had a great 15th Annual triathlon and hope to do it again in 2023.
