Merchants Millpond State Park is known for its beautiful scenery, especially the Cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. It's great that so many people (39!) came out to enjoy the trails. Some didn't want to tackle the whole seven miles so they turned back after a couple miles. The majority of the group continued along the Lassiter Trail where we were rewarded with some stunning views of the swamp and the unique ecosystem there. The Spanish Moss covering the trees presented fantastic views.
After about 5 miles, we arrived at the canoe campground where we settled on three picnic tables and on the ground to eat our lunches. Being near the lake, we scanned the lake for wildlife including the elusive Alligators. A few turtles were seen but no gators.
Be sure to check the schedule. We have many more adventures coming up.
