It was a sunny and humid day for our Tuesday group paddle at Crab Creek, (near Pleasure House Point and the Lesner Bridge). A few of us ate a hearty breakfast at McDonalds before gathering at the put-in for registration at 9:15. The group was small (Bill, Buck, Jack, Bruce D, Vic & Margaret, & Bob) but happy, and delighted to be out and about, and in the water enjoying the great outdoors, even if it was a little hot. So we paddled toward the Western Branch of the Lynnhaven river until we abruptly run into very shallow water. So we paddled back to where the wind took us and went to the Eastern Branch side, before the wind completely died, then we decided to turn around and paddle where there was some more wind, and found our way to Long Creek, where there was some fascinating boat traffic, big beautiful houses, some very interesting birds and great scenery along the water. This happened many times, including when we were heading under, and sometimes dangerous, (new) Lesner Bridge where there is always wind off the bay and rough paddling. This made for a very unique zig zag paddle, which Bill captured on his GPS trance, don’t think I’ve ever paddled quite like that before, but it was fun and refreshing, and nobody complained about it nor the hot weather, in true Tuesday group spirit.
After the paddle we met Ellis and Marti at CP Shuckers for a wonderful lunch and good company, at a cool restaurant. Another successful Tuesday group paddle.
