First Landing to Rudee Inlet 12-4-18

In 44 degree temperature and 15 mile per hour winds out of the north, 18 Tuesday Groupers started out on a trek thru First Landing State Park.

After a brief stop at the park’s Trail Center, the group split up with part biking the Cape Henry Trail thru the park and part the bike path along Shore Drive, each trying to minimize the wind. After meeting up at the 64th street entrance into the park, the group biked the paved roadway into the Narrows and back. Beautiful sunlight was slanting through the evergreen and leafless trees. After crossing Atlantic Avenue the group biked down Oceanfront Avenue among the oceanfront houses and then the Virginia Beach Boardwalk to Rudee Inlet. Tailwind of 15 mph was wonderful going down, but a struggle on the return trip. After returning via the trail thru the park and the bike path along Shore Drive, the group settled into a delicious lunch at C.P. Shuckers. There was only one mishap on the trip when one of the bikers hit a root on the park trail and took a tumble. He gamely finished the ride with the rest of the group. When we got to lunch one of our bikers was missing and came late. We found he had to make a stop at the local donut shop for a “sugar fix” before lunch. In spite of the cold and wind, it turned out to be a beautiful day for a bike ride.
