On this Tuesday the blueberries were in season and gave us a goal to accomplish most of the ride before our ice cream treat at College Run Farms. The ice cream thrill was enhanced by the weather—the high temperature eventually went up to 95 while we were there and the humidity did its best to match—it was sticky. 17 Tuesday Groupers met at the Surry Governmental Center and headed out promptly at 9:30 a.m. The ride has become familiar to the group and this particular ride had no slackers in the group. The pace was fast for the Tuesday Group. Is the lure of ice cream that strong? We headed East and then down to Bacon’s Castle, on the Chippokes Plantation for a rest stop, and then on to College Runs Farms where we loitered and debated the merits of Strawberry versus Blueberry ice cream. I can’t tell you which flavor won with the group. And then we rode on to the finish, packed up, and most went on to Surry Seafood Co., a restaurant on Grays Creek, and mused about paddling the creek at a future time. It was a great ride, with good friends, and the good fortune to beat the really intense heat. A good day.
